Choosing HOLIDAY APARTMENTS IN SPAIN is not all that it’s cracked up to be. It depends entirely on what the holidaymaker is searching for. Predominantly, it is just a place to set the head at night and recuperate before heading off into the sun in the morning? For others it is like seeking a home from home. What is needed from this short-stay home-from-home apartment? A pool for the days when not out exploring the countryside or town? A kitchen or if possible a barbeque to cook with, when not wanting to spend every night looking for alternative place to eat? Obviously a bed with a fantastic view in the early morning would be a bonus. Somewhere that can be called "home" for the period you’re on holiday.

Let’s face facts: holidays are often more strenuous than we expect. The long journey, even if all the travelling arrangements went to schedule. The holiday always consists of two days travelling, no matter how or what time the journey started, and is often preceded by a day of packing and preparing. What to carry is often governed by the route taken; many of us use the airports and the baggage handlers seem to handle less and less baggage these days. That takes us back to the times when baggage handlers were often the first to strike - 5 minutes before air traffic control. I imagine the reason why the baggage allowance has got smaller with each trip is to reduce the unnecessary use of baggage handlers, and less chance of airport handlers striking. After all if the aeroplane owners can stop us carrying anything onboard we would not need the handlers in the first place. So the more there is in the apartment, the less needed for travelling.

The first thing that some of us do is run an eye over the apartment, being critical of all those little niggly things that will bother us later. Or is the baggage just dumped at the front door with the worry of putting it away postponed until the bag needs to be opened? Arrival time often dictates the next choice: is it early enough to make use of the kitchen and a need to buy something at the local store? Providing someone has nicely written a list of places to go and how to get there along with a list of rules and regulations for the apartment things should be fine. Or if it’s too late for the stores to be open, head down to the restaurant before it closes. Of course that could be anywhere directly underneath the apartment or ten miles down the road, so who has the car keys?

Holidays: who would have them? In truth we all need to get away from it all though. Some of us are too busy to take them, but we know we should like the rest of the mortals. So here we are: first day in and ready for the beach. Get the kids out of the pool and piled into the car, but wait what's at the beach? A lot of sand, crowds of people, places to spend yet more money. The pool at the apartment is beginning to sound like a great idea, so why go out?

Spain, however, has a lot to offer. After all there is so much of this world we never get to see until we are on holiday. Maybe that is why we go; not only to relax, not only to recharge tired batteries but a chance to experience something different from the familiar day to day living. No, today we're going trekking. We will pack a picnic, climb a mountain – well, maybe just a hill today, tomorrow the mountain - or better yet contact a local riding school. See what horse treks there have, what skill level or experience is needed and maybe we can still have a picnic. Yes, choosing HOLIDAY APARTMENTS IN SPAIN all depends on what we plan to do when we are there.
